Few foods allow for such creativity as the humble sandwich. By definition, it’s just bread and . . . stuff. PB & J on white? That’s a sandwich. A mountain of pastrami anda bit of slaw between rye? Also a sandwich. Wonder bread with lentil soup ladled on top? Horribly messy, but still a sandwich. The truth is, it’s very hard to screw up a sandwich, but if you want to assemble something better than just decent, here are The Web’s Best Sandwich Recipes.

Grilled Cheese and Short Rib Sandwiches

Unfortunately, you can’t put this guy together during the opening credits of a movie like a lot of sandwiches. The short ribs will take a bit and caramelizing and pickling some onions will require your attention for a few minutes. But, just like building a deck, the effort you put in will make it that much better when you enjoy it (unless the deck collapses and kills everyone). Enjoy!Link

Soft-Crab Sandwich

This sandwich is all about the crab. If the sandwich was the 1990’s Chicago Bulls, the crab is Jordan. Feel free to take some liberties with theaccouterments though. Also, try not to use the word “accouterments.”Link

Thanksgiving Leftovers Club Sandwich

Some people say Thanksgiving is the best food day of the year. It’s tough to argue, but we’d go with the day after. Why? Taking all those leftovers and piling them on some bread for a post-Turkey Day smorgasbord, that’s why. This sandwich takes that idea to the extreme by attempting to get your entire Thanksgiving meal between two slices of weight-bearing bread. It’s even got a dinner roll in it.Link

Coffee Bacon Sandwiches

We’re very aware that bacon goes well with anything. One of the places this is most evident is its presence in so many great sandwiches. Seriously, who orders a LT? This bacon-filled number gets an extra kick thanks to a coffee and sugar mixture. Two eggs on the side and you’ve got yourself a complete breakfast.Link

Orange Barbecue Pulled Pork Sandwich

Whenever we lay eyes on a beautiful pork shoulder, our primal response is, “We gotta rip that sucker apart and devour it NOW.” The only issue is, you gotta inject it with some flavor while it gets tender, and that can take some time. Just enjoy the intoxicating aroma with a couple of beers while the pork gets amazified in your slow-cooker. Once you can shred it, you’ll enjoy these sandwiches for days (unless you plan on sharing, which we don’t recommend). Link

French Onion Grilled Cheese Sandwich

It’s like French onion soup but portable! The only thing we hate about French onion soup – getting the cheese broken apart with the edge of a spoon – is taken care of when it’s all in sandwich form. Link

BBQ Cabbage & Sausage Stuffed Sandwiches

A sandwich doesn’t have to be two slices of bread, it can be open-faced, have a third slice in the middle or, in this case, resemble a Hot Pocket. Unlike the freezer aisle meal though, these won’t leave your microwave a disaster and you with a horrible feeling of loneliness. Link

This chorizo “breakfast” sandwich really spans the gamut. For breakfast? Yup. As dinner? That works. 3 am after a night of drinking? Just be careful with the frying pan.Link
