Romania was not expected to make it to the knockout stage, let alone win their group. With the Netherlands underachieving thus far, our Euro 2024 betting picks believe an upset, or at least a competitive match, is in the cards.

Romania were at the bottom of the Euro 2024 odds list in Group E when it came to their chances of making it into the Round of 16. But they topped their group and are full of confidence ahead of their clash with the Netherlands on Tuesday, July 2 in Munich.
My Romania vs. Netherlands predictions and Euro 2024 picks believe that even if they go out, Romania will not do it without a proper fight.
Romania vs Netherlands picks, predictions, and betting tips
My best bet:
Romania to win or draw (+190 at Betano)
My analysis
Romania have punched above their weight at Euro 2024. Defying all odds, they topped Group E ahead of Belgium, Slovakia, and Ukraine.
Even though the tiebreaker used was the superior number of goals, as all four teams finished the group tied on four points, Romania's performance is remarkable. They were by far the underdogs in their group, with only a handful of their players competing for midtable clubs in the big leagues.
But Romania's performance at the Euros is not coming from nowhere. They reached excellence in normality in the qualifiers after they finished undefeated in a group Switzerland were also part of.
From the previous 14 matches between Romania and the Netherlands, the Dutch won nine, with Romania on top just once. The Romanians have only scored a total of three goals in all these confrontations, compared to the Netherlands' 29. In their only meeting at a final tournament, the Netherlands won 2-0 in the Euro 2008 group stage.
But this Romanian side is not that much into stats. They have reached the knockout stages of a final tournament for their country for the first time in 24 years and they wish to keep the party going. If they manage to get past the Netherlands, it will only be their second knockout victory at a major tournament after defeating Argentina in the Round of 16 at the 1994 World Cup.
The energy inside the Romanian squad is great after the group stage, with the fans also embracing the moment. Against superior quality opposition, Romania always play counter-attack. They know how to suffer and accept their limits with bravery. Similar storylines have seen them draw (2-2) away, then beat Switzerland at home (1-0) in the qualifiers and also win against Ukraine in their Group E opener at Euro 2024.
On the other hand, the mood inside the Netherlands national team locker room is not good at all. Ronald Koeman's critics have blamed the Dutch coach for his tactical approach. The defeat to Austria (3-2) on the final day in Group D was largely regarded by the media as one of the worst outings in the Dutch national team's recent history at a final tournament. There's big pressure on Koeman and his players to deliver, but they seem resourceless, despite the quality of the squad.
The Netherlands start this matchup as big favorites, but knockout games at the Euros are rarely about status. Should Romania be ready to put up the same effort as they did in their previous matches at Euro 2024, they stand a proper chance to at least go into extra time.
Cody Gakpo odds, prop for today
My best bet
1+ shot on target (-238 at Betano)
My analysis
Cody Gakpo is expected to start against Romania, adding skill and bite to an attacking pack which the likes of Memphis Depay or Xavi Simons should also be part of.
Romania has faced 13 shots on target so far in the tournament, the second-most after Georgia. No easy evening is expected for Romania's Florin Niță, one of the in-form keepers at the Euros.
Gakpo leads the numbers when it comes to shooting on goal for the Netherlands. From a total of six shots, four of them forced a save from the goalkeepers the Dutch faced so far. Gakpo has twice as many shots on target as Depay and scored two goals so far in this tournament. At -238, a bet on Gakpo shooting at least once on target vs. Romania is more than decent.
Romania vs Netherlands same-game parlay (SGP)
Romania to win or draw
Cody Gakpo 1+ shot on target
Over 2.5 yellow cards
+470 at Betano
Romania are making the most of their journey at the Euros so far. A fierce battle against the Netherlands is expected to take place in Munich on Tuesday. The Romanians will give away the ball and will try to maximize their counters, with wide forwards Man and Mihăilă out to trouble the Dutch.
This should be no easy job for German ref Felix Zwayer. A lot is at stake, so Zweyer should come into action quite often. He has shown at least three yellow cards in his last seven matches, so a bet on bookings to round up a nice SGP is definitely worth taking into consideration.
