LEAH WOOD - Logan's Funeral Home (2024)

LEAH WOOD - Logan's Funeral Home (1)
November 10, 2023

On Friday, November 10th, 2023, on her own terms, surrounded by the people she loved, who loved and adored her, Leah took to her broom one last time and went to be with those who were waiting for her.

Born in Berwick, Nova Scotia in 1942, Leah is predeceased by her parents Bob and Vi Huntley and her siblings Marie, twins Robert and Ronald and Betty Ann.

Leah’s kind, gentle and loving soul led the way for her to be lucky in love three times in her life. She is predeceased by her husband George Wood and her husband Bob Abernathy. Leah leaves behind her dearly loved partner Doug Greer (Dennis, Allison, Michael, Kate and Ben).

Fiercely independent, Leah strongly believed that women could do whatever they set their mind to. She was not above using a butter knife and a hard healed shoe to complete construction projects. Leah instilled the same belief in her daughter Kelly. She whole-heartedly supported Kelly in every aspect of her life and was especially happy that Kelly’s partner, Steven, came into the family.

Leah’s unbounded love grew as she welcomed four grandchildren into her life: Bo (Alishia), Trevor (Maggie), Colin (Nicole) and Emma (Conner). Nanny, as her grandchildren lovingly called her, created a wonderfully unique relationship with each of her grandchildren. Although they love her to the moon and back, they know she’ll always love them more.

Leah’s family continued to expand as she proudly welcomed six great grandchildren into the family. Alexa, Easton, Oliver, George, Damon and Naomi held a special place in Great Nanny’s heart.

Leah’s tender- and warm-hearted nature provided for many other loving relationships. She will be greatly missed by her son-in-law Fred Fraser, her brother-in-law Charles Jones, her sister-in-law Dorothy Summerhayes as well as her nieces and nephews.

Never one to limit the number of people she loved, Leah had many close friends, too many to mention, but please know that she loved each and every one of you. We have no doubt that Joan and Nancy were waiting for her arrival, planning a whole lot of shenanigans.

Leah became passionately involved in anything that interested her. She was a founding member and is reigning Queen of a local Red Hat Society chapter. Also, an active member of knitting, sewing and quilting groups, Leah built many long-lasting friendships.

Leah was a very spiritual person. She believed in crystals, tarot cards, tea leaf readings and all things “witchy”. Leah was also a Reiki Master. Those left behind know that she will visit.

Visitation for Leah will take place on Friday, November 24th, from 6:00 – 8:00 P.M. and on Saturday, November 25th, from 10:00 – 11:00 A.M. Memorial service will take place on Saturday, November 25th at 11:00 A.M. All will take place at the Logan Funeral Home (705-746-5855), Parry Sound, Ontario.

Donations in Leah’s honour may be made to the Parry Sound Salvation Army (Toy Drive).

Doug and Leah's family...we were sorry to hear of Leah's passing. She was a 'tough' lady but with a caring compassionate heart. In the midst of her own illness (unknown to us at the time), she had spoken to Dan and had offered to come out and help us! We will not forget her, selflessness and kindness in the midst of her own health challenges. Thank you Leah.

-Dan & Gail Galley

My sincere condolences to the family.
